Canoe club members have been invited to go for a paddle with Minister McKenna to mark the opening of, among other Park Canada sites, the Rideau Canal. See below.

Hello Mark,

It was good to speak with you on the phone this morning, and I am happy you
will be able to extend an invitation out to your members to join Minister
McKenna for a short paddle on the Rideau Canal on Friday morning, May 18,
2018. This will mark the opening of Parks Canada places, including the
Rideau Canal, for the 2018 season.

The intent is to meet at the Patterson Creek access point at approximately
9:15am and then depart at 9:30am for Ottawa Locks. The Minister will paddle in the Parks Canada Voyageur Canoe, and there is
space for an additional 6 people. Ideally, the Minister would like to make
those spaces available to youth 17 and under, but is a school day so I
understand availability.Once at Ottawa Locks, the Minister will say a few words about the season
opening.

Last fall the Minister announced that youth 17 and under would
get free entry to Parks Canada places (where admission fees apply), and
this year Parks Canada is offering a special deal for paddlers (canoes &
kayaks), 50% off a season lock pass.

Your members do not need to RSVP to attend, but at the same time, if you
have members who know they will participate, I invite them to let me know
so I can have some understanding of the numbers of people to expect. I am
hoping we can have a good crowd. Thanks, and please don't hesitate to phone or email with any questions.
