Course Description:
Paddle Canada Basic Sea Kayak Skills, the successful participant will obtain Paddle Canada certification for Basic Sea Kayaking Skills.

The course provides the skill and knowledge necessary for kayaking in
sheltered waters (flatwater, lakewater). The course includes an overview of paddling skills (lifting & carrying a kayak, forward and reverse strokes, sweep strokes
and draws), basic rescue skills including wet exit, retrieving a swamped  kayak
and assisted re-entries. Knowledge topics such as boat design and
equipment, safety.


Instructions to Participants:
Meet 845 at P12, Boat Launch Meech Lake Gatineau Park (parking fee required, driving instructions below)

The Paddle Canada Basic Sea Kayak is a one day (8 hour) course.
Course starts promptly at 9 AM at P12 the Meech lake boat launch (see driving
directions below).

You will need a sea kayak (with separate watertight, flotation compartments in the
bow and stern of the boat), a spray skirt, double bladed kayak paddle, PFD,
whistle, throw rope, bailer or pump, watertight flashlight.

I recommend that you bring:
-clothes for paddling, swimming, dry land instruction and a change of clothing for driving home.
-lunch and snacks, lots of water
-sunscreen and sun hat.
We will spend some time ashore for dry land / theory instruction. You WILL be in the water repeatedly during rescues, (goggles or nose plugs are optional, water shoes highly recommended).

you can, print and sign (If not, copies will be available before the course.)

Driving Directions to the Meech Lake (P12) Boat Launch from the RA
Centre Boat Shed.

Take Bronson Ave. North, cross Portage Bridge into Gatineau, follow
Maisonneuve Blvd. to Highway 5 , continue north, take exit 12 (Old Chelsea),
turn left to go through Old Chelsea and continue on Meech Lake Road
until you reach parking lot P12 on left, boat launch area is on
right. Note: Parking is now by ticket from machine .
