INTRODUCTION TO WHITEWATER SOLO CANOE 2017
Intended for individuals with little to no moving water / whitewater solo canoe experience. This course aims to introduce paddlers to the basic solo skills required to navigate through whitewater rapids. Emphasis will be place on solo canoe skills using the 2x4 method as well as understanding whitewater principles and river safety. Successful participants will receive Paddle Canada Introduction to Moving Water Solo certification.
2 course sessions are offered in 2017. Each course consists of a half-day flatwater session (in town, the date to be determined) and a full weekend at Palmers Rapids. A planning evening will also be arranged prior to the weekend course.
Participants should budget an extra $50-100 for shared transportation and camping costs (food/fees).
Canoe rental is included with course fee. Private boats may be used, but they must be fully outfitted with thigh straps and floatation and must be pre-approved by course instructor.
The club has paddles, white water helmets and Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) available for student use. Participants are encouraged to bring their own personal gear. You must talk to you instructor prior to the course to ensure your equipment appropriate for whitewater training. If you plan on buying gear prior to the course, please check with your instructor.
Participants require their own tent and sleeping bag for camping at Palmer’s rapids.
