Sea Kayak Pool Sessions

Paddlers will be able to practise various skills and work on self rescue techniques, rolling skills and bracing. One instructor will be available to provide assistance as needed.

Bring your own kayak or sign out a club boat and bring it (do not use the new yellow tropical skirts - if unsure contact training coordinator)

Kayak pool sessions are scheduled for:

2019 Paddle Canada Level 1 Sea Kayaking skills course

Description:

Building on the information covered in Basic Skills, Level-1 is a two-day course that moves participants beyond flatwater kayaking and into the sport of sea kayaking. The course is conducted in slightly rougher water than Basic Kayak, aiming to develop the paddler's comfort in class-1 waters. There is a strong focus on re-entry techniques as well as the skills required to safely plan and execute a day trip with friends (for example, navigation & route planning, weather interpretation, proper clothing/gear.)

Prerequisites -
Speak with Instructor before registering if unsure about prerequisites:
• PC Basic Kayak skills certification or equivalent skill and knowledge at the discretion of the course director.
OR
Paddling experience:
• Five kayaking excursions (2 or 3 hours) in calm conditions.
• Can execute a controlled wet exit in calm conditions.
• Can perform a simple assisted re-entry in calm conditions.
Note: The wet exit and re-entry can be done by contacting course instructor before registering or on first day of course.

Location: within 1.5 hr drive of the RACCC Boat House

Equipment:
- The RACCC has Kayaks, paddles and Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs)
- Private boats may be used: to be pre-approved by course instructor.
- Participants are encouraged to bring their own personal gear.
- NOTE: We strongly suggest that participants NOT purchase a PFD or Paddle prior to the course:
We include info on choosing PFD's and Paddles and essential equipment.

Maximum: 6
Cost: Members: $123.90    (sorry, this course is not available to non-members)

Cost does NOT include kayak rental
