Introduction to Tandem Lake (Flatwater) Canoeing - 2024

tandem sculling draws smallWho is this for?  This course is for paddlers new to canoeing or those who have not taken any training and/or would like to update their skills. Past participants said:  "This is a great course - it went way beyond my expectations. I learned a lot and had fun. The instructors were so knowledgeable!"

Course description:  The Introduction to Lake Canoeing course introduces paddlers how to paddle with a partner in calm sheltered waters.  
Instruction includes:
- Key paddling strokes in both bow and stern (front and back of the canoe)
- Basic Maneuvers: forwards, backwards, sideways, turning, pivoting, stopping
- Land and water rescue techniques
- Canoeing History, Prevention: Hyper-Hypothermia, 10-Essentials, more canoeing opportunities

At the end of the course participants will have the confidence and basic skills to venture out on short paddling adventures in calm water conditions.
To the extent possible, RACCC instructors tailor the course to the skill levels of the course participants. This helps to ensure that everyone gets value out the course.

RACCC canoes, paddles and 'lifejackets' are provided for those who do not have them.

Participants should be comfortable swimming while wearing a PFD.
Age 12 and up.  Minors require a parent or guardian to be present throughout the course.

Location:  Meet at the boathouse at the RA Centre. Carpooling to the training location will be arranged.

Cost RACCC Member: $150+ HST       Non- Member: $250 + HST

Minimum # of participants:   4           Maximum # of participants: 10

Please follow the directions on the site to activate your account. Please note: The course price will default to the non-member price until you get to the checkout screen. The price should then change to the member price.
