Introduction to Tandem Lake (Flatwater) Canoeing - 2023

tandem sculling draws smallCourse description:  This course is for paddlers new to canoeing or those who have not taken any training and/or would like to update their skills.The Introduction to Lake Canoeing course introduces paddlers how to paddle with a partner in calm sheltered waters.  
Participants will learn and practice key paddling strokes in the bow and stern as well as land and water rescues techniques.
At the end of the course participants will have the confidence and basic skills to venture out on short paddling adventures.

On the Saturday/Sunday course sessions, participants learn and practice basic canoeing strokes and maneuvers to paddle a canoe forwards, backwards, sideways as well as pivots and turns. In addition a pool session includes water safety and canoe rescues.

RACCC canoes, paddles and 'lifejackets' are provided for those who do not have them.

Prerequisites:   
Participants should be comfortable swimming while wearing a PFD.
Age 12 and up.  Minors require a parent or guardian to be present throughout the course.

Course #1:  June 3-4, 2023: Saturday and Sunday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM  (Play RA Barcode  ​24895)

Course #2:  June 10-11, 2023: Saturday and Sunday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (Play RA Barcode  24896)
AND:
The canoe rescue session for both courses:  Rescue training:   Thursday June 29, 2023 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Location:  RA Swimming pool

Course #3: NEW! July 8-9, 2023: Saturday and Sunday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM  (Play RA Barcode 45764)  (MIN: 6 - MAX: 8!!)
   NOTE: canoe rescue training will be held during the course (hence slightly longer days) 
 Location:  8:15 AM - MEET AT THE RACCC Boathouse to organize gear and carpooling.
                       (Blue metal building in the WEST parking lot at the RA CEntre - on Riverside Drive - just east of Bronson Avenue)
                   We will caravan from there to our paddling destination (Petrie Island)
