Whitewater Training

Introduction Whitewater Tandem May 30 and 5-7 June 2020

For individuals with little or no moving water / whitewater canoeing experience, this course aims to introduce the basic skills and techniques needed to manoeuver through white water rapids. Emphasis will be placed on canoe skills, understanding whitewater principles and river safety. Successful participants will receive Paddle Canada Introduction to Moving Water certification and may be also admitted to the club Whitewater List which will allow them to join club whitewater trips. A partner is not required, pairs will be arranged by instructors.

Private boats may be used, but they must be fully outfitted with thigh straps and floatation, and must be pre-approved by course instructor.

RACCC has paddles, white water helmets and personal floatation devices (PFDs) available for student use.

A wetsuit is strongly advised as water temperatures in early June are very low.  These must be purchased or borrowed as there is no known source of rentals in Ottawa.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own personal gear, but you must talk to your instructor prior to the course to ensure your equipment appropriate for whitewater training. If you are considering buying gear prior to the course, you may wish to check with the instructors.

If under 18, the participant's parent or guardian must be present on site.
