RACCC Kids Tandem Moving Water course with Paul Mason 2020

This is a course for parents and children.  One parent must sign up with each child and be an equal participant.


What to expect: Paddling, canoe games, fun swimming in current. We’ll practice safety and rescue techniques (ie: catch the fish). Of course snack breaks are mandatory:)

Adult participants can expect to have as much fun as the kids, while also playing a supporting role in dealing with sun, wind, rain and snack breaks. Expect to learn basic canoeing skills in this abbreviated canoe course.

You will be required to sign a waiver on the day of the course. Adults will need to sign a waiver for their child and a parental consent form.

-canoe, if you are bringing your own please tell me make and model.  If you do not  have a canoe, you will have to book a a club boat and let Paul know what you are bringing.

-medium size drybag to fill with water to help trim the canoe.

-kid’s wetsuit, or synthetic insulating layer and rain suit/wind breaker/wind resistant pants and jacket.


-properly fitting pfd

-helmet (skateboard helmet is fine. Bike helmets don’t work)

-proper footwear ie: neoprene booties-(I have limited qty. to lend out at no charge) or running shoes. No open toe sandals, rubber boots or flip flops.

Location: Ottawa River, Beachburg (directions follow below)


From Ottawa, take 417 west. Stay on 417 past Arnprior and Renfrew. 

From 417 turn right onto Hwy 7 (Foresters Falls rd.)

Road goes down hill turning sharply just before town of Foresters Falls, turn left at the bottom of hill onto Government rd. follow it... then turn right onto Powers rd. (NOTE: Sign for powers rd, is actually on opposite side of Government rd. and hidden by tree branches. If you arrive at Beachburg, you missed the turn.)

At the end of Powers rd. turn right (onto Grants Settlement) and immediately turn left onto McCoy Chute trail. Go past the OWL/MKC river access paddlers parking area, watch for small opening into grassy field on your right, park to your right behind the large shipping containers. This is our meeting point.
