Does your mood improve when you are surrounded by trees, water or wide open sky?

Is Algonquin or Gatineau Park or La Vérendrye your second home? Do you camp, canoe, kayak, hike, snowshoe, cross-country ski or otherwise spend time outdoors? Would you be willing to help a student’s research by talking about your relationship with the natural environment?

An Italian student, Andrea Coletti, is in Ottawa for a short period doing research for his Masters thesis on the relationship that connects people to the Canadian landscape while travelling through it. His primary focus is on Ottawa and the surrounding natural environment: on the places and the symbolic elements of the landscape to which people are attracted, and on the expectations and perceptions that lead people to seek out and relate to natural spaces and waterways, whether within the city or outside of it.

Andrea has been meeting with and interviewing people who are involved in outdoor activities in the region and is very interested in the RACCC as he is studying not only natural destinations, but the means used to travel, and the canoe is a very Canadian conveyance. His interviews are very informal; he’s interested in knowing where people visit, why and how, the types of activities they do, and any travel narrations and stories about their experiences that people wish to share.

If you would be willing to have a conversation with Andrea, or know someone else who might be, it would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or cell +39 3345426120 (NB: Italian number).
