Family Paddle on Rideau Canal - May 26, 2019

We started our adventure from the Rideau Canal Hartwells Locks near Carleton University, under beautifully sunny skies. We had four families in four canoes and a tandem kayak, including baby Aislee and puppy Shadow.

With windy conditions we stuck close to shore as we paddled around Dow’s Lake past the pavilion and docked our boats. We found a picnic spot at the Commissioners Park for lunch, then some of us walked around to check out the tulips while others played. A short paddle back to Hartwells Locks ended a great day on the canal.

I think that the trip was a nice little trip just to meet new people and to get some fresh air and exercise. Although I wish that it was less windy because it made it harder to control the boat, especially for me and Riley. I hope everyone had a good time. - Dylan

I agree with Dylan about the wind (it was crazy) and it was kind of hard to go in one direction with the boat.Other than that it was a good little trip.lunch was good, I liked the idea of having lunch and then looking at the nice toolips! Everything else was pretty fun though other than the wind, on the way back it was a bit harder though.I hope everyone else had fun too. - Riley
